Snapbau is a digital purchasing management platform used by more than 320 construction companies in Switzerland, including major players such as Orllati, CPSA, Scrasa and ARSA. Our solution automates and optimises the management of calls for tender and purchasing, enabling companies to save time, reduce errors and centralise collaboration with suppliers.
You will be part of the team responsible for designing and building the AI layer of Snapbau’s digital operating system for procurement and coordination in the construction sector.
TasksAI System Design & Development
- Develop machine learning and AI models to automate and optimize construction procurement workflows (e.g. price prediction, document classification, lead scoring, supplier matching).
- Build generative AI features to assist with document generation, meeting summaries, and structured communication.
- Create and maintain pipelines for training, testing, and deploying ML models.
- Develop lightweight APIs or services to integrate AI modules into the Snapbau platform.
Data Engineering & Management
- Work closely with backend developers to structure, clean, and extract usable data from various sources (e.g. supplier databases, project histories, tender documents).
- Apply construction-specific taxonomies (e.g. eBKP-H, CRB) to enable structured, domain-relevant decision-making.
- Improve model performance through effective feature engineering based on our domain data.
Product Integration
- Collaborate with product managers and frontend developers to design and implement AI-powered tools for end users.
- Ensure AI components are integrated into Snapbau’s user experience in a fast, reliable, and intuitive way.
- Monitor model performance post-deployment and adjust based on feedback and new data.
Strategy & Innovation
- Contribute to Snapbau’s long-term AI architecture and roadmap.
- Stay updated on advancements in applied AI (LLMs, computer vision, agent workflows, etc.) and evaluate their relevance for construction tech.
- Help define AI-related hiring, tooling, and infrastructure needs as the team scales.
- Proven experience in developing and deploying machine learning models (especially NLP, classification, recommendation, or price prediction).
- Strong programming skills in Python; familiarity with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, FastAPI.
- Experience building and maintaining ML pipelines.
- Familiarity with REST APIs and integrating ML models into production environments.
- Solid understanding of data wrangling and structuring from messy or unstructured sources.
- Knowledge of or willingness to learn domain-specific standards such as eBKP-H or CRB is a strong plus.

Your responsibilities:
Holding competence-orientied courses in the English-language study programs on Bachelor and Master's degree level at our campus in Heidelberg
Instructing the students in acquiring the intended competencies, conveying the necessary course content using didactically suitable methods and grading the examination results
Supervising research, bachelor and master thesis projects including student mentoring, partner management and publication of selected works in scientific journals
Taking responsibility for modules in the two mentioned study programs ranging from the selection and guidance of lecturers to the planning of the sessions
Willingness to take up further academic functions, i.e. regional Head of Study Programme, and to participate in the self-administration of the school or university
Performing other academic, organizational and administrative tasks
Your profile:
At least five years of professional experience in the area of applied computer or data science or related field with specialization in ML/AI applications, of which three years must have been conducted outside university
Knowledge of the principles of machine learning, deep learning, generative and artificial intelligence applied in modern software and data engineering and information system development, IT security, robotics, etc.
Practical and teaching experience i.e. in programming languages such as Python, Java, etc.
Ph.D. in Computer or Data Science with a focus on machine learning, artificial intelligence, or a related field of research
Relevant publications and conference contributions in the field of computer and data science
Teaching experience at a university is benefit
Excellent English language skills
Willingness to actively develop and accompany learning processes according to the CORE principle, as well as an independent and responsible style of working

Aufgaben- Identifikation und Analyse von Dritt-Tools, deren Ergebnisse in LLM-Anwendungen eingebunden werden sollen
- Konzeption und Umsetzung robuster Schnittstellen und Pipelines zur Übergabe dieser Informationen an LLM-Systeme
- Gestaltung von LLM-augmented Interfaces, bei denen Nutzende gezielt geführt statt gepromptet werden
- Extraktion strukturierter Daten aus unstrukturiertem Text, z. B. mithilfe von LLM-gestützter Nachverarbeitung
- Zusammenarbeit mit Backend-, ML- und Produktteams, um vollständige End-to-End-Flows zu schaffen
- Evaluation der Antwortqualität anhand klar definierter Benchmarks, Nutzerfeedback und Usage-Logging
- Du hast ein abgeschlossenes technisches oder wirtschaftswissenschaftliches Studium im Bereich Informatik, Mathematik, Physik, Maschinenbau oder eine alternative Ausbildung
- Du hast mehrjährige Erfahrung im Umgang mit Python und der Entwicklung neuer Machine Learning Modelle
- Du besitzt fundiertes Wissen im Umgang mit API's und Datenmodellierung
- Erfahrungen mit OpenAI, LLama, LangChain oder ähnlichen Toolkits von Vorteil
- Du verfügst über gute Deutschkenntnisse und wohnst in Nürnberg oder Umgebung
